Objections lodged, Laturkars awaiting for action

Laturkars seem to be adamant over the demand of hosting the divisional commissioner's office here. The State Government has already issued a notification seeking objections on constituting a divisional commissioner's office at Nanded. The last date of lodging objections was 2nd February. The Laturkars had launched an aggressive agitation against this proposed move of the State Government. Ayuktalaya Sangharsh Samiti was established and the battle was decided to be fought on different levels..

On legal front, a petition has been already filed in Aurangabad bench of Bombay High Court against the notification to establish divisional commissioner's office at Nanded. The Latur Bar Association had taken up initiative for launching a legal course in this connection. All the lawyers in. Latur court had tied black ribbons on 12th January. A whopping 700 objections have been already lodged from Latur, Osmanabad and Beed at Aurangabad divisional commissioner's office till the deadline of 2nd February given by the government. It's worth mention here that Zilla Parishad, all Panchayat Samitis, Gram Panchayats, Municipal Councils and Municipal Corporations have lodged their objections with commissioner's office. The Laturkars are now eagerly waiting for an action to be taken on these objections lodged. Objections have been also lodged from Beed, Kej, Ambajogai and Parli in this connection. In addition, Osmanabad has also joined the protest by registering objections.
The guardian minister of Latur and Beed, Panjkaja Palwe-Munde had also assured Laturkars recently that she will convey the sentiments of people to the government. The Laturkars are now expecting their guardian minister to come to their rescue on this issue of divisional commissioner's office. Cutting across party lines, all the activists in Latur have joined their hands on this issue. A delegation of BJP led by Shailesh Lahoti comprising Mohan Mane, Gaurav Brijwasi, Adv Bharat Sabde, Appa Munde, Baburao Khandade, Arif Siddiqui, Anil Patange had also met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recently. The CM had ' assured this delegation that the State Government will not do injustice to Latur. In the opinion of Latur Ayuktalaya Sangharsh Samiti, the notification of State Government proposing to establish divisional commissioner's office contradicts the revenue Acts and rules. Laturkars are adamant on the demand to host the coveted divisional commissioner's office. They claim that on merit and geographical basis, the office needs to be set up in Latur. There are 27 regional offices in Latur. A sprawling and spacious administrative campus has come up at Latur two years back by spending a whopping Rs 15.56 crores. The Laturkars are claiming that the newly constructed administrative campus is meant for the divisional commissioner's office.

Currently the collector's office has been temporarily shifted to this new administrative campus as the old collector's office has been put to renovation. It's further claimed by jurists in Latur that Nanded as of now does not have a sprawling administrative campus where the divisional commissioner's office can be set up instantly after declaration, while Latur has it. Another proposition made by jurists here is that the State Government may think over creating a divisional commissioner's office for three districts namely Latur, Osmanabad, and Ambajogai (by granting it a status of district). Another divisional commissioner's office can be created for Nanded, Parbhani and Hingoli. The Aurangabad division already covers Aurangabad, Jalna, and Beed. This will pave the way for three divisional offices in Marathwada and will resolve the issue once and for all. It will also curb the infighting between districts of Marathwada keeping its unity intact. Meanwhile, the notification issued by State Government to set up a divisional commissioner's office at Nanded has sparked a battle between Latur and Nanded. Both the districts seem to be adamant over the demand. The State Government is proposing to begin the divisional office at Nanded from February 23. The three districts namely Latur, Osmanabad, and Beed are however still hopeful that after lodging 700 objections, the State Government may rethink on the issue of constituting a divisional commissioner ate at Nanded.
